Eric Mayes is a former American football player who played as a linebacker for the University of Florida and later in the NFL for the Houston Oilers and the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was born on August 29, 1968, in Jacksonville, Florida. Mayes played college football for the Florida Gators from 1987 to 1990, where he was a standout player and earned All-SEC honors.
After his college career, Mayes was selected by the Houston Oilers in the fourth round of the 1991 NFL Draft. He played six seasons in the NFL, five with the Oilers and one with the Jaguars, before retiring in 1996. Mayes was known for his tough and physical play on the field, and he was a key contributor to the Oilers' defense during his time with the team.
After retiring from football, Mayes has worked as a football analyst and commentator, providing insight and analysis on various sports networks. He continues to be involved in the football community and has remained active in charitable endeavors.
